Why reviews are changing nautical employment
The problem in the nautical sector
In the nautical sector, hiring has historically worked through contacts. A captain knows a deckhand, a stewardess recommends a friend, a skipper hires the same team every year. When someone new enters the sector, they have no way to prove their worth beyond their CV.
And companies have no public track record either: a crew member doesn't know if they'll be paid on time, if onboard conditions match what was promised, or if the company follows through on its commitments.
The solution: two-way reviews
Yemplea has implemented a review system that is unique in the sector:
- When a job is completed, both the company and the worker can rate each other
- 5 professional aptitudes are scored: punctuality, attitude, competence, reliability and communication
- Reviews are anonymous with no comments — only objective data
- Each party has 14 days to submit their review after the job is completed
Progressive visibility
To protect users with few reviews, the system implements progressive visibility:
- The overall average (★) is always shown on the profile
- The aptitude breakdown only appears after the 3rd review
- The Reviews tab is only visible when there are 3 or more
Who can see reviews?
- Workers: their reviews are visible to companies they apply to
- Companies: their reviews are visible to registered users on the platform
Why this benefits everyone
Committed professionals build a track record that speaks for them. Transparent companies attract better talent. And the entire sector levels up when objective information is available for decision-making.
No other nautical job platform offers this system. It's exclusive to Yemplea.
