Nautical season in Ibiza 2026: everything you need to know
I've spent eight seasons working in Ibiza and every year I get the same question: "is it worth it?". The short answer is yes, but you need to know when to arrive, what to expect and how to navigate it all.
Ibiza: epicenter of nautical employment in Spain
Ibiza, along with Palma de Mallorca, is the main nautical employment hub in Spain. Every season, hundreds of charter yachts and private vessels need qualified crew. The island combines a high concentration of marinas (Ibiza Town, Santa Eulalia, San Antonio) with an international clientele that demands professional service.
Key dates for the 2026 season
- March – April: season preparation. Shipowners start looking for crew. The best time to apply.
- May: season start. First charters, yachts arriving in port. High demand for deckhands and stewardesses.
- June – August: peak season. Maximum activity, weekly charters, long days but generous tips.
- September – October: end of season. Some yachts still operating. Good months to gain experience with less pressure.
- November – February: off-season. Maintenance work, preparation for the next season.
Most in-demand positions in Ibiza
Based on offers published on Yemplea, demand varies by time of season, but these positions have the most openings:

- Deckhand: deck maintenance, maneuvers, water sports. High demand from May to September.
- Chef: one of the highest-paid positions. Mediterranean cuisine experience highly valued.

- Event Hostess: for private events and onboard parties. Peak demand in July and August.
Salaries by position in Ibiza (2026 season)
Ibiza salaries tend to be slightly above the Spanish average due to cost of living and high demand:
- Deckhand: €2,000 – €2,800/month + accommodation
- Stewardess: €2,200 – €3,200/month + tips
- Chef: €3,500 – €5,500/month
- PPER Skipper: €3,000 – €4,500/month
- Engineer: €2,800 – €4,000/month
Charter tips can add between €500 and €2,000 per week shared among the crew, depending on the yacht and clients.
Accommodation: the big challenge
Accommodation in Ibiza is expensive and scarce during peak season. Common options:
- On board: many positions include accommodation on the boat. It's the most practical and affordable option.
- Shared apartment: between €500 and €800/month per room in areas like Jesús, Figueretas or San Antonio.
- Tip: look for accommodation in March-April before prices rise. Some shipowners help with housing.
Practical tips for the season
- Arrive early: the best positions are filled between March and April. Don't wait until June.
- English level: B2 minimum. Charter clients are predominantly international.
- Documentation up to date: ISM certificate, STCW, certifications. Have everything ready before you arrive.
- Networking: visit marinas in person, talk to other crew members. Word of mouth is still important.
- Online platforms: register on Yemplea to receive job alerts in Ibiza and apply directly.
