Cook jobs in Spain in 2026: salaries, demand and how to find the best offers

If there is one profile that is chronically scarce in Spanish hospitality, it is the cook. Season after season, hotels, restaurants and beach clubs look for experienced cooks and can't find enough. That has a direct consequence: salaries rise and those with the right profile have negotiating power.

Cook salaries in Spain 2026

• Kitchen assistant (no experience): €950–1,250 gross/month.
• Line cook (1–3 years experience): €1,400–1,800 gross/month. The most in-demand seasonal profile.
• Experienced cook (3–7 years): €1,800–2,400 gross/month. Higher in areas like the Balearics or Costa del Sol.
• Sous-chef / second chef: €2,000–3,000 gross/month.
• Head chef: €2,500–4,500 gross/month depending on venue size and level.

Unlike floor positions, cooks don't usually receive tips. Their advantage is stability — fixed-discontinuous or even permanent contracts are easier to obtain than for waiter/waitress positions.

Where cook demand is highest

• Balearics (Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca): May–October season, very high demand, CAEB agreement salaries above national average.
• Canary Islands (year-round): less seasonal, more stability. Large chain hotels with permanent staff.
• Costa del Sol: long season (April–November), high concentration of top-level hotels and restaurants.
• Ski resorts (Sierra Nevada, Baqueira-Beret, Formigal): November–April season. Very scarce cook supply in this period, driving salaries up.

Training venues look for

• Vocational training in Cooking and Gastronomy: the most recognised qualification.
• Food handler certificate: mandatory in virtually all positions.
• Allergen management training: increasingly required by regulations and venues.
• HACCP knowledge: highly valued in hotels and restaurant groups.
