Hospitality in winter: the second season many nautical workers already use
If you've spent one or more seasons working in nautical jobs in the Balearics, you know what happens every October: the boats leave, companies close or reduce staff, and suddenly you have four or five months ahead without a contract.
Many nautical workers already find hospitality work in winter — because they have client service experience, speak languages, know how to work under pressure and are familiar with the coastal environment. Everything a hotel or restaurant in the Canary Islands looks for in winter season staff.
Today this is official on Yemplea: you can now activate the hospitality sector from your existing account.
Why nautical workers fit well in hospitality
- English: charter clients are international. Canary Islands hotel guests too.
- High-level service: a steward/stewardess who has worked on a 20m+ yacht knows table service, personalised attention and demanding client management.
- Working under pressure and in teams: yacht season work prepares you well for a restaurant or hotel pace.
- Geographic mobility: nautical workers are already used to moving. Going to Tenerife or Gran Canaria in October isn't a problem.
Where the winter opportunity is
The Canary Islands have a unique European characteristic: high hotel occupancy 12 months a year. Tenerife (Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos), Gran Canaria (Maspalomas, Puerto Rico), Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have 4 and 5-star hotels running at full capacity from October to April.
How to activate hospitality on your Yemplea account

- Activate "Hospitality".
- Add your hospitality specialties and winter season availability.
- From that point you access both nautical and hospitality offers.
